Greetings everyone, I am posting a photo to practice.  It was taken several months ago of Tia and me.  Isn’t she a cutie?!

Thanks for visiting.  Please come again.

Greetings,

Three of our close friends have offered up challenge donations for miles riden by guest riders.  Leonard and Carla Wood, Jonathan and Lise Kempner and Marc and Melissa Bromley have offered to match cumulative miles ridden by guest riders with three dollars per mile.  Jim and I hope this will motivate you to consider becoming a guest rider for a few days of the adventure.

We appreciate these friends’ generosity and hope you can help maximize their generous offer to the benefit of PKU research and NPKUA.

Jim and I are training together this week and tackling such noteworthy rides as Vail Pass (2,500 foot gain in 10 miles), Eagle and back (60 miles) and Glenwood Springs (60 miles).  Training at 8,200 feet has proven one thing.  Vail needs more oxygen!!

Dick and Jim welcome you to PKUCycleAmerica and our ride to raise awareness of and funds for PKU.  We are doing this for Tia and all those who will benefit from PKU research that will improve their daily lives.

We will finish our daily training at the end of July and head to the Oregon coast August 1 to make final preparations for the ride. We’d like to introduce Tod Andrews, who will drive our support vehicle and provide expert cross country cycling advice and bike maintenance. Tod has cycled cross country three times and has worked in a bike shop in Chapel Hill, NC. Tod loves to ride and his friends credit him with motivating them to prepare for and take on major rides.  Tod has given us a long list of mission critical items to bring and suggested adjustments to our bikes and apparel to increase comfort and safety.  We welcome his support and his caring attitude.

We’ll be posting commentary about each day’s ride and photos in this blog. Please visit the blog to see how we’re doing and give us a shout of encouragement. Knowing you are out there and tracking us will help motivate us to get back on the bike each morning.

Many thanks for your interest and support.
